HEALTHY AGEING, stage project, multi-morbidity

Work Package 9 Objective

WP9 will maintain a catalogue of life-course data and geo-spatial exposures, ensuring the ability to collaborate with external users and integrate multiple types of data.
It will also provide a portal with trustworthy data to support interventions and research into healthy ageing, at individual, local and regional levels.

Why is the data intelligence portal important?

Data is at the core of all STAGE research, and WP9 will focus on ensuring there is a trusted and FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable) research environment for data discovery, access and analysis. It is important to ensure data is stored in a logical, consistent manner across the project so that it can be accessed easily by the work packages. This also allows other researchers in the future to make use of the same information easily.

WP9 Activities and Interlinkages

WP9 will collaborate with several other work packages. For example, it will collaborate with WP3for geospatial data and WP4 and WP5 for multi-morbidity measures. The training resources developed will be shared via the STAGE Healthy Ageing Academy, developed in WP10. Key tasks include:

T9.1

Data Infrastructure

Providing a safe infrastructure for data discovery, access and analysis to the STAGE researchers. This includes adapting and sustaining existing catalogues such as the European Health Research and Sample Catalogue, the geospatial ‘Exposome Data Platform’ developed in previous projects.

T9.2

Co-creation of a FAIR Data Point

Building on T9.1, integrating a web-based user interface FAIR data point for research in life-course, ageing and multi-morbidity research. This will allow external users to add new life-course metadata to the platform. It will be co-created with relevant users to ensure acceptability.

T9.3

Data Intelligence for Planning

Designing the STAGE FAIR data point to aid planning and interventions for EU citizens, without needing to be an expert. It will support participatory research and policy planning, drawing on the Healthy Ageing Lab of WP10. It will also support WP3.

T9.4

Integrated Portal

Integrating STAGE’s digital systems and providing a coherent user interface, supporting science and evidence-based policy decisions. A panel of users will refine the experience. It will also support the users of other WP9 components. Training materials will be included in the Healthy Ageing Academy (WP10).

WP9 Stakeholder
Impacts

  • The data catalogue will aid external researchers – avoiding duplication, enabling rapid and efficient data discovery, and increasing replication and cross-study comparisons – by making research more reliable and widely applicable.
  • The portal will provide several tools and transferrable solutions to inform policymakers and local planners to support healthier neighbourhoods and ageing in place.

“Developing tools to support researchers, policymakers and planners is crucial if we are to support ageing societies to live healthier lives for longer. We need to ensure that people trust the research environment and that we provide supportive, evidence-based tools to help stakeholders make informed decisions.”
